Universal DMG for Apple silicon and Intel Macs
Independent guide · Last updated
Want to download PdfCraft? This guide covers PdfCraft by ArtCraft, a free, open-source desktop PDF tool—not other products with a similar name. Start with an official Windows, macOS or Linux package below, then test a copied document before replacing Acrobat. The project is still Early alpha.
Our take: A useful alpha to try for reading, combining, splitting and organizing PDFs—not a complete Acrobat Pro replacement.

Need Windows ARM64 or x86, a portable ZIP, Linux ARM64, DEB, RPM or Flatpak? Open the full release asset list and match the package to your system. Linux requirements vary; read the repository’s download notes before installing. The WebAssembly ZIP is a self-hostable build, not a ready-to-use hosted web editor.
The official product page may show an older version. The buttons above use the GitHub release checked on 2026-10-15. For newer builds, check the latest official release. Compare your downloaded file with SHA256SUMS.txt; matching a checksum checks file integrity, not whether an alpha app is suitable for sensitive work.
Prefer one installer for the family? ArtCraft Launcher 0.4.1 is a separate project. Use our ArtCraft GitHub directory to find its source code, or browse all app downloads.
The short answer
A useful alpha to try for reading, combining, splitting and organizing PDFs—not a complete Acrobat Pro replacement.
The official repository describes viewing, comments, forms, page organization, passwords and basic signatures. It also documents missing Office-to-PDF conversion, layout loss in Word export, limits in existing-text editing and non-Latin OCR, and gaps in preflight and advanced signature validation. If one of those tasks is the reason you need Acrobat, downloading PdfCraft alone will not solve it.
What is already there
These are capabilities documented by the official project. They are reasons to test the app, not a promise that every Acrobat workflow behaves identically.
01
The project documents search, bookmarks, thumbnails and multiple reading layouts. Check a representative document’s fonts, text selection and page rendering before relying on it for a reading or review job.
02
PdfCraft describes merging files, extracting selected pages, splitting documents and rotating or deleting pages. After a trial, reopen the output and check page order, bookmarks and forms rather than judging the result only by its thumbnails.
03
Threaded comments, form fields and password-protected documents are documented. The repository also describes redaction and basic signatures, but availability is not independent proof of security or full Acrobat parity. Use an established validation workflow for sensitive or regulated documents.

Common questions
Use the official ArtCraft product page or releases in github.com/storytold/pdfcraft. This guide links to those official files, not a mirror. Match the package to your operating system and architecture, compare its checksum with the release’s SHA256SUMS.txt, and test the alpha on copies before using important files.
The official project is dual-licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, at your option, and downloads are free. Those licenses allow commercial use subject to their terms. Assets and branding can have separate rules. Legal permission to use the program does not establish production readiness or regulatory compliance.
Launcher manages multiple Crafting Apps and their updates. A standalone package installs only PdfCraft; you can choose a specific release and format yourself. Windows also has a portable ZIP. Pick Launcher for a shared install workflow, or standalone when you want only the PDF tool or need explicit version control.
It is worth trying for everyday reading, comments, forms and page organization, according to its documentation. It is still alpha. Office conversion, complex text editing, non-Latin OCR, preflight, PDF standards compliance and advanced signatures have documented gaps. Test your actual task and keep a proven tool for requirements it does not meet.
The official project describes local document processing without an account, telemetry or cloud processing. Native desktop packages and a self-hostable WebAssembly build are published. Browser behavior is not identical to the desktop app: the repository identifies web printing as a gap. This is a project statement, not an independent privacy or security audit.
How we evaluated this page
This guide summarizes the official PdfCraft product page and repository. We have not yet independently tested production files, performance or long-session stability, so those claims remain clearly bounded.
Development journal
· Official release
The official release notes list font-metric and Unicode changes, preservation of neighboring text during replacements, large-document preparation away from the UI thread, and fixes to links, annotations and form handling. Version 0.8.0 supersedes the 0.7.1 download snapshot we checked earlier; the product page may still show an older build.
· Documentation update
The current README identifies PdfCraft as alpha. It documents gaps in Office-to-PDF conversion, Word export layout, complex existing-text editing, non-Latin OCR, preflight and advanced signature validation. This is a review of the documentation available today, not an announcement that those limitations or features first appeared today.
· Community report
A thread in r/ArtCraftAI lists community Android ports of PhotoCraft, WordCraft, LightCraft and PdfCraft. These repositories are not the official storytold desktop releases. The post is a community report; we have not tested the ports or reviewed their installers.
