PhotoCraft download and installation guide
0.12.0 · macOS · Windows · Linux · Web
DownloadFor a PhotoCraft download, start with the official ArtCraft product page or the releases in the storytold/photocraft GitHub repository. The Rust-based image editor is listed as early alpha, so prepare copies of your documents before trying it.
This Australian English guide helps you choose a standalone installation or the Launcher. We do not redistribute installers. Available files and requirements can change; the notes for your chosen release take priority over a general guide.
Updated:
Early 23 October check: published versions unchanged
This limited check found no newer published release. Development docs clarify missing JPEG options in PhotoCraft and hidden-information removal in PdfCraft; they do not establish changes in the installers. Both notes belong to 23 October in Beijing time; PhotoCraft uses the official PR merge time rather than the earlier internal commit time. Direct access to X, YouTube and Google search pages was limited.
22 October check: published releases and community reports
Verified releases include PhotoCraft 0.12.0, VectorCraft 0.14.0, PdfCraft 0.11.0, FigCraft 0.9.0, Launcher 0.6.1 and new packages for the remaining Crafting Apps. They were published on 21 October UTC; some fall on 22 October in Beijing. Higher versions do not change the development labels. These releases have no FreeBSD ARM64 packages. The briefs are split by Beijing time: six releases on 21 October and eight on 22 October.
PhotoCraft 0.12.0’s official documentation still lists Generative Fill and Expand as missing. Content-aware editing and the separate AI studio are different workflows. The community browser workspace is an independent alpha, and print PR 5456 remains unmerged. These are not our own hands-on tests. Direct access to X, YouTube and Google search pages was limited.
20 October check: published releases and community reports
Verified releases include PhotoCraft 0.10.0, VectorCraft 0.13.1, PdfCraft 0.9.0, FigCraft 0.7.0 and Launcher 0.5.1. Download records for all 13 apps were checked against published packages. The original publication dates are 17–18 October UTC; these are not new releases today. FigCraft 0.7.0’s tagged documentation now includes optional agent read/write folders, which do not provide a complete operating-system sandbox.
Two reports today concern PhotoCraft brush and cursor lag and VectorCraft Pencil drawing new paths instead of editing. Build and environment details are incomplete; we have not reproduced the reports or verified a fix. Direct access to X, YouTube and Google was limited, so coverage is incomplete.
A dated brush report: check the Spacing setting
A community report included in the 17 October update described a brush stroke appearing after the pen moved, then attributed the behaviour to Spacing. The author mentioned F5 without specifying the application version or operating system. We have not reproduced the case or established that the shortcut applies on every platform.
Before treating every delayed mark as a performance problem, inspect brush spacing on a small canvas. This historical report is not a confirmed fix or a universal explanation. If the issue continues, record the version, input device, canvas size and brush settings.
What is PhotoCraft?
PhotoCraft is a layered image editor for retouching and compositing. Official sources describe masks, text, adjustments and PSD/PSB handling. Those descriptions outline its intended scope without proving complete Photoshop interchangeability.
If you are still deciding whether to switch, begin with the comparison guide. This page focuses on finding the correct download and preparing a first run. It does not describe a hands-on benchmark carried out by this site.
Check the system, processor and package
Use the files attached to the selected release to establish availability. A general platform list does not specify every architecture, graphics requirement or dependency. A WebAssembly archive also does not necessarily mean a hosted web editor is ready to use.
| System | Possible release formats | Confirm before downloading |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | MSI installer or portable archive | Whether the asset is for x64, ARM64 or x86 |
| macOS | DMG disk image | Minimum macOS version and Intel or Apple silicon support |
| Linux | AppImage, DEB, RPM or Flatpak, depending on release | Processor architecture, dependencies and package environment |
| Web | WebAssembly build, where supplied | Hosting instructions and browser requirements |
Choose the Launcher or a standalone download
The Launcher can manage several Craft Apps together. A standalone download may suit you if you only need PhotoCraft or want to retain a particular installer. In either case, record the installed version before comparing results.
On GitHub, check the owner storytold and repository photocraft. A similarly named AI service or third-party package is not necessarily the same product. Follow the official sources rather than assuming that a search result offers the correct application.
Install PhotoCraft on Windows, macOS or Linux
On Windows, select the official asset for your processor architecture. Run the matching MSI, or follow the instructions for the portable archive if one is available. Do not choose between x64, ARM64 and x86 packages at random.
On macOS, open the official DMG and follow its instructions to copy the application to Applications. If macOS presents a warning at first launch, check the file’s origin and the project’s documented procedure before proceeding. Avoid turning off system protections globally.
On Linux, choose the package for your distribution and processor. An AppImage normally needs permission to execute; Flatpak needs a compatible runtime environment. Use your package manager for DEB or RPM dependencies. Do not replace system libraries arbitrarily to work around an error.
Interface language and regional settings
Selecting Australian English on this website changes this guide, not PhotoCraft’s installed interface. We do not claim a separate Australian edition or a complete set of regional settings for every app version. Check the application’s preferences and release documentation.
The Launcher has its own interface settings. Languages available in that manager do not establish what an individual Craft App supports. If you report a language problem, include the app version, operating system and selected language so that the observation is useful.
Try a small document before using important files
Create a small image with layers, text, a mask and an adjustment. Save, close and reopen it. Export your usual format and compare dimensions, transparency and colours. This is a suggested verification process, rather than a report that we have tested your setup.
Next, try a copy of a representative PSD. Check fonts, blending and effects. Use an appropriately demanding example for large documents or print work. Keep the originals and your notes so you can repeat the same checks after an update.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the official PhotoCraft download?
Use the PhotoCraft page on getartcraft.com or the releases in GitHub’s storytold/photocraft repository. This guide links to official sources and does not host repackaged installers.
Is ArtCraft Launcher required?
No. PhotoCraft also has standalone releases. The Launcher is an optional way to manage multiple apps and their updates.
Does this guide install an Australian English interface?
No. This is an Australian English website guide. Check the installed application’s own settings and documentation for its interface languages and regional options.
What should I check if PhotoCraft will not start?
Check the system version, package architecture, dependencies and release instructions. Record the error and application version. On Linux, also check execution permissions and the requirements of the package format.
Can I send a client a PSD straight after installation?
A successful installation does not validate a document. Check a representative copy through saving, reopening and handover, paying attention to fonts, effects and colour requirements.
